Part of my problem with the artist’s statement (or any writing you are asked to do about your own art) is it feeks like I am being asked to explain who I am, what I am about. That has always been a hard question for me. As Raymond Saunders said “If we could speak it, we would not paint it”. The idea of the inadequacy of language is a recurring element in my paintings and the reason I need an entire blog dedicated to “speaking it”.
